O n May 16, as part of the Orbeli Expert Dialogues series, the Orbeli Center hosted a closed online discussion with Indian geopolitical analysts Abhinav Pandya (Founder & CEO, Usanas Foundation) and Jason Wahlang (Research Analyst, Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA)) titled: “India’s Fight Against Terrorism: Operation Sindoor, Pakistan’s Response, and the Future of Regional Peace.”

The dialogue opened with condolences expressed by the Armenian side over the recent Pahalgam Terror Attack and casualties resulting from Operation Sindoor, along with a firm condemnation of attacks targeting civilian infrastructure. The Armenian experts reaffirmed the importance of dialogue, respect for ceasefire agreements, and adherence to international law as essential components for sustainable peace and security, values Armenia upholds in both regional and global contexts. 

The Indian side welcomed this principled support by the Republic of Armenia and underlined the growing convergence between the two nations on matters of counterterrorism and national sovereignty.

The context and motivations behind Operation Sindoor, its connection to India’s current security approach, and its role within the broader India–Pakistan dynamics were discussed. The discussion also covered key themes such as the prospects for dialogue, evolving Indian security doctrines, and the role Armenia and other regional actors can play in promoting de-escalation, peacebuilding, and long-term cooperation.

Special attention was given to the strategic alliance among Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye, and its implications for regional balance. In light of this, the participants acknowledged the need to deepen Indo–Armenian cooperation.

The conversation concluded with a mutual understanding of the importance of continued professional exchange, and both sides expressed interest in institutionalizing such dialogues to foster mutual understanding and build long-term strategic trust.
